Incorrect tire pressure will not only affect your fuel consumption, but it can be one of the reasons as to why you may end up in a car crash. - Vehicles equipped with ESP (Electronic Stability Program) will experience sudden intervention of the system’s operation and one or more wheels will start to brake. The ESP warning light on the instrument cluster will come on;
- If the tire pressure is too low or there is a puncture in the front wheel tire, the car will tilt smoothly to the right or left when driving. When braking, the car will tend to spin around the front axle.
It is best to monitor your tire pressure using a pressure gauge every 14 days. You also have an option to check your tire pressure at a gas station or at a tire shop.
It is also a good idea to visually inspect the tires before every car trip both in the morning and in the evening. This will help you detect a serious puncture or cut, when the tire can clearly stand out compared to the others.
The required tire pressure for your particular car can be found in the car’s driver’s manual, in the table on the fuel cap, on the driver’s door pillar or in the tire pressure table provided by your tire manufacturer.
