More Girls Are Playing Football. Is That Progress?

More girls are playing high school football, even as the sport draws fewer participants overall in an injury-conscious era.

As part of Super Bowl LII in Minneapolis, the National Football League organized its third Women’s Summit for Friday “to discuss how football and the broader sports world can continue to support the advancement of women on and off the field,” said Kamran Mumtaz, an N.F.L. spokesman.

The sport remains male-dominated, with no women playing in the N.F.L. and few on college teams. But some high school girls, playing on teams of boys, are gaining attention for their achievements.

For example, last fall, the high school quarterback Holly Neher threw a touchdown pass in Florida, making headlines as the first girl known to do so in state history.

East Bengal’s Alejandro Menendez – Difficult to improve with refereeing mistakes

Coach Alejandro Menendez stated that he was pleased with the performance of his players in the first half. He was also rued the fact that Jobby Justin was wrongly flagged offside when the striker had a brilliant opportunity to score.

“I think that we played well in the first half. We took out many of their men. We created many chances. In the second half, they pushed ahead and we missed the ball and the game got open. After the match was open, we had a big opportunity for Jobby that was offside and they got momentum after that. One more time in 0-0, we got a bad decision from the referee and they scored from the only one good chance they got,” said Menendez.

ISL 2018-19: Controversial penalty helps Jamshedpur FC hold Kerala Blasters

Kerala Blasters failed to bring their winless run to a halt but put on a spirited show against Jamshedpur in a 1-1 draw on Tuesday at the JLN Stadium in Kochi.

For Jamshedpur, Tim Cahill started for the first time after his farewell game for Australia national team. While Pablo Morgado was rested, young midfielder Mobashir Rahman and Malsawmzuala earned starts.

Is Star Wars 9 Really Teaming Rey with This Surprise Character?

Okay, this is unexpected. But it makes sense. We know from leaked set photos that Finn, Poe and Chewbacca are off on their own adventure when Star Wars 9 kicks off. So where are Rey and Rose? They are on their own solo mission, with the two characters teaming up for the first time on the big screen together.

Rose is one character we haven’t heard much about since J.J. Abrams began shooting the epic finale to the SkyWalker saga this summer. Small tidbits have dribbled out here and there. Rose has been a divisive character, to say the least. Fairly new to this universe, she has some fans, but more haters. And the abuse online towards the maintenance worker caused the actress who plays her, Kelly Marie Tran, to quit social media.

Now, she’ll be back in Star Wars 9, presumably still pinning aw...

War vet set to marry his first love 70 years after PTSD tore them apart

World War II veteran Roy Vickerman and 89-year-old Nora Jackson of the U.K. are planning a summer wedding, 72 years after first getting engaged.

Vickerman originally popped the question when the high school sweethearts were 18 and he was about to go off and fight in the war, according to media reports. The engagement crumbled, though, under the weight of his battle with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) when he came back wounded in 1946.

The pair eventually moved on to other relationships, married and started families. Jackson, who’s been widowed for 14 years, admits she did think about her old fiancé over the years.

“In fact I dreamed about him a few times,” she said to The Telegraph.
